Community Governance Review

Notice of Community Governance Review Local Government and Public Involvement in Health Act 2007 Local Government (Parish and Parish Councils) Regulations 2008


Mid Suffolk District Council has commenced a Community Governance Review in all parts of the District.


The purpose of the review is to enable the Council to consider what changes are needed to parish arrangements.


The Council has published its Terms of Reference document for the review and a copy can be viewed on the Council website at Community Governance Review https://www.babergh.gov.uk/elections/community-governance-review/


The Council is now conducting the first stage of consultation as part of the review process and is inviting residents and interested organisations to submit their views on the above issue.


The Council welcomes representations from any residents and interested organisations who may wish to comment on the proposals in their local area or on any aspect of the matters under review.

The deadline for responding to the first phase of consultation is Friday 27 May 2022.


What A Community Governance Review Is

It is a statutory process to review the whole of the district to consider one or more of the following:

  • Creating, merging, altering or abolishing Parishes;

  • The naming of Parishes and the style of new Parishes;

  • The electoral arrangements for Parishes (the ordinary year of election; council size; the number of councillors to be elected to the council, and Parish warding), and

  • Grouping new or existing Parishes under a common Parish Council or de-grouping existing Parishes

The first stage of the review process will be a consultation, the District Council will be inviting residents and other interested persons or organisations to submit their views.

The deadline for submissions to the first stage of the review is Friday 27 May 2022
